Amber Makes Sampler Quilt Block of the Month - The Maple Leaf Blocks Tutorial

The Maple Leaf is a simple block made from rectangles and squares with a straight stem. It’s often used in Autumn themed quilts and looks really effective when each block is rotated. The two larger Maple leaves are made using different prints and the third Block has four smaller leaves to give that falling leaves effect. The stems are appliqued in place to make it easy to piece.

Sampler Quilts were traditional made for quilters to practise, perfect and try out a variety of different blocks. They were then joined together, usually with simple sashing between them to frame each block, to showcase the quilter’s work and use as a reference for future quilts. It’s the same now, as making a Sampler Quilt is a great way of learning how to make different blocks as well as learning a whole host of piecing techniques along the way.

We have chosen our favourite twelve block styles then given each one a different twist or design to make thirty-six quilt blocks in total. You can then keep the instructions to build up your own quilt block library and use them to make smaller items if you prefer.

We’ve designed an exclusive set of prints for the blocks so, once joined together, they match and blend beautifully.
Collect them all to make thirty-six Blocks to piece together into your very own beautiful Sampler Quilt – a true quilter’s work of art.
