Olfa Acrylic Non-Slip Quilting Ruler – 6½x6½in

This frosted acrylic ruler is a must when cutting fabric using a Rotary Cutter and Cutting Mat. It has a non slip surface so will stay still on your fabric and protect your fingers from the cutting blade too. We chose this one has it is non-slip and has easy to read black numbers and lines. It’s ideal for trimming Quilt Blocks and shapes and for cutting smaller pieces of fabrics.  It’s our go to ruler for trimming HST Blocks.

How to Use an Acrylic Ruler

1.     Place the marked line of the ruler on the raw edge of your fabric that you want to the finished piece to measure.

2.     Place your hand in the centre of your ruler to keep it steady then cut along the edge of the ruler using a Rotary Cutter, making sure the Blade runs along the edge of the ruler.

3.     You can keep your hand flat but if you find the ruler shifts then place all your fingers and thumb on the ruler instead (in a tent shape) as this will stop it moving forward. Make sure you keep a firm and even pressure on the ruler.

4.     If you’re trimming HST Blocks using this ruler then line up the 45° marked line with your seamline and trim round all four sides to make the Block the correct size. Using a Rotating Cutting Mat does make this process easier as you don’t have to move the fabric.
