Turning Tubes are one of our must-have and most used sewing tools. They are just brilliant for turning tubes of fabric right sides out as they’re easy to use and do it so quickly too. So, whether you’re making wide bag straps or little tubes, doll arms or rouleau loops – these will make turning out a breeze.

The wooden turning rods are also brilliant for other sewing tasks such as pushing out fabric corners and running along seams so they lay on the edge. An invaluable addition to your sewing kit!

This Prym Turning Set contains three different sizes of tubes:

  • Small – this has a plastic tube and a metal turning rod and will turn out fabric tubes form 9.5-16mm width
  • Medium - this has a plastic tube and a wooden turning rod and will turn out fabric tubes form 19 - 25mm width
  • Large - this has a plastic tube and a wooden turning rod and will turn out fabric tubes from 25mm width

How to use a Turning Tube

  1. Start by stitching your fabric tube. It’s best if this only as a seam on one side as it’s less bulky but will work if you have seams on both sides as long as it’s not too narrow.
  2. Tack the fabric tube together across one short end. You can do this by hand or by machine using the longest stitch length.
  3. Choose the correct Turning Tube for the width of the fabric you have made. Refer to the measurements or just use the largest plastic tube that will fit inside your fabric tube.
  4. Place the plastic tube inside the fabric tube and push it right to the end which you’ve tacked close.
  5. Take the turning rod, that comes with the plastic tube you’ve chosen, and push the tacked end into the plastic tube using the flat end.
  6. Push the tacked end all the way through until it comes out of the other end of the plastic tube. Pull it all the way through until the whole fabric tube is turned right sides out.
  7. Undo the tacking stitches at the end and give your tube a press to finish. Easy!
