A self-healing cutting mat is an absolute must when using a rotary cutter and ruler to cut your fabric. We chose this cutting mat as it’s really good quality with lots of marked measurements. It’s large enough to cut across the width of quilting weight fabric folded in half so is perfect for cutting fabric into strips and smaller pieces too! With Imperial measurements on one side and metric on the other it’s perfect whichever way you like to measure.

Features

·      This self-healing cutting mat is made from tiny particles of PVC pressed together so that when cut into using a rotary cutter, the blade slips between the pieces instead of slicing through them. The particles then move back to fill the cut when the pressure is released so the groove left by the blade automatically closes up.

·      The mat is double sided with an Imperial Scale printed on one side and Metric on the other.

·      The grid lines are marked in increments as well as having 30° 45° 60° bias lines printed on it to help with cutting and marking angles.

·      The mat will protect your work surface and provides a grippy, stable surface for cutting.

·      Always use a specialist Rotary Cutter and Ruler when cutting fabric on this mat to protect your fingers and for accurate, neat cuts.

Dimensions:

Mat size: 23½x35¼in (59.5x89.5cm)

Measurable size: 22x34in (55.5x86cm)

How to Care for Your Mat

1.     Over time, the heal on your mat will become less effective.  Try not to make repeated cuts on the same section of mat as this will avoid grooves being made which won’t ‘heal’ back into position.

2.     Always use a sharp blade, keep it lying on a flat surface and avoid direct sunlight.

3.     Cleaning your Mat regularly will extend its lifetime and your blades too. Start by removing fluff and embedded fibres by rubbing a soft eraser gently over the surface then brush off the fibres. This will help the mat to ‘heal’ better after cutting.

4.     For a good clean, place your Mat it in a bath of warm water with a little mild detergent. Brush it all over using a soft brush (an old toothbrush is ideal!) Next, rinse it off and dry it with a cloth.

5.     Store your Mat flat to stop it warping out of shape.
